Stalled

All I need to do today is put simple borders on a commission quilt, not lofty goals, but I'm so stalled. I'm sure it's the holidays and so much going on.

Plus this little girl hasn't been feeling well
Her Vet called last night and changed her medication and had me thinking I'd be taking her for a quick run to the Vet's.

So imagine my surprise when The Bug came to me and said "Maya's being mean to me".

Since Brady usually only fibs about food, (what treat? I didn't get a treat) I went to check it out and found that every time he tried to go out the doggie door, she would pounce on him, when I opened the door she took off and this is what I found when I went after her.

I think she's feeling better :) She even started throwing coconuts at me, which is a game but they hurt if they hit you. That may sound odd to you, but Key's dogs think that coconuts and palm fronds that magically appear in the yard are the best toys. I have a couple of coconuts put aside for my granddogs for Christmas since they moved out of the land of magic coconuts.

Our weather is beautiful, a cold front came through and it's in the 70's, so playing with the terrible twins sounds very enticing, but I really need to finish this quilt.

When Cori moved and I knew I would be with her for awhile, I ordered a bed and mattress for her spare room, then decided it needed a quilt (of course). I made this quilt in three days, but I had a lot of incentive and nervous energy, which David called losing my mind.

I made the rug too, but I had that, I didn't instantly just whip that up :)

So what do you do when you're stalled? Push through it? Walk away? Go play with coconuts? Write a blog post? Please don't say you clean the house.

Later Gators,
Dana

  1. I stall on borders no matter what. Clean house?? Although I do need to put a swipe thru the bathroom as grands are coming to visit tomorrow. Amazing how fussy those boys are about how 'clean' the toilet is, but can't aim!! At 70 degrees ( we are at 23 with wind chill) - I would go out and play with coconuts.

  2. Clean the house?!?!?! Are you kidding? It depends. If I really have to finish something quickly, then I try to push thru. I also waste lots of time on the computer, instead of stitching when I'm supposed to (like now). Good luck.

  3. lol. I keep telling you to hire someone to clean the house for you. Your losing your mind quilt is great....love the bold colors, but the zig zag makes me crazy!
When I get stalled, I have this blogging friend that usually tells me to quit whining, and get moving.....make a plan, pick some fabric, just push on thru it. Like she did when I broke my shoulder :)
Girl, you have had a lot on your plate lately so take a deep breath, play with dogs for an hour and sew for an hour to give you some balance. As for me, I eat chocolate, have coffee, and watch an old movie.
PS---it is 25 degrees here this morning:)

  5. Clean the house, ha! That's when I really stall! Actually you caught me mid-stall, needing to add the binding on a Christmas runner that would be beautiful if I hadn't messed up the FMQ on the dresden plates. I've about decided to go ahead and add the binding, stick a couple candlesticks over the worst spots, and after the holidays pick out the bad quilting and do it over. But first I need to cut more strips for a couple dozen Scandinavian folded stars, cook up another pumpkin, and ...

  6. Well, I'm glad Maya is feeling better. When I'm stalled, I usually do something in the kitchen. Cleaning would probably be last on my list.

  7. Had me worried about Maya, so I'm glad to hear she is feeling better. Although the throwing coconuts sounds dangerous, but yet a good toy. Too funny. When I'm stalled, I usually try to take a break or I find creativity becomes a drudgery. Then when I come back to a project, I usually have more enthusiasm. Maybe some good walks, time to bake, read a book, watch a movie, look for inspiration, all seems to help. For various reasons, I'm in a funk but plan to visit with a friend today and hope that puts me back into the mode of being creative.

  8. Well the terrible twins sound just like kids Dana, LOL. We always knew when ours were feeling better when they started to get into trouble again. Picturing Maya throwing coconuts at you and it's cracking me up.
That's a really cool, graphic quilt! Three days is amazing!
I'm not very good at getting myself out of stalled mode. Sometimes a fresh change of scenery helps. Or switching tasks for a little bit.
So glad Maya is feeling better!

  9. Usually when I'm stalled I give the sewing space a good clean out and just make a block - that normally does the trick. I love the idea of the furballs playing with coconuts - can just picture our basset with one!
