Pets On Quilts 2015

Pets On Quilts went live today, the best, most fun and friendliest quilt show on the web. Can you tell this is my favorite?

There's a lot of stalking and planning that goes into this, so this year I decided to change things a bit. Miss Maya has a thunder coat and every time we put it on her, Brady Bug gets jealous.  She's afraid of everything and he's fearless, so I decided to make him a coat of his own.

It has a removable cape since if there's a scary sound, Maya runs to us while Brady runs towards the sound, we call him Super Dog, absolutely fearless.

I had this zebra flannel and made him his own quilted coat

And it's reversible if he's in a more moo-mellow mood. He's smiling about the purple cow, but he prefers the zebra, it makes him more ninja like. I used batting to give it body then straight line quilted it.

So that was it, Brady will pose, Maya will run, but David was home that day and advocated for his little girl being included, O.K. let the circus begin.

Here's the pictures that we could use from an all day try.

That's it, two shots.

And here's the outtake stories and pics.
We had the quilt all laid out, I have the camera hidden and David promises he'll get her to lay on it, he call's her and she takes the long way around to us, goes to the upper deck finding the only puddle in the yard, walks through it and gets ready to jump down onto the quilt. I'm grabbing the quilt, David's trying to grab her, she's trying her best to get on or under the quilt, comedy ensues and that's an end to take one.

Take two: Cleaned up, same setting it actually works, except the sun didn't cooperate and we were so focused on Maya neither of us noticed how bright it was until I saw the actual pictures, one side completely bleached out.

And this one where we bribed her with a cookie
Attractive, right?

I'm leaving out the dozen or so of the one's where she's cowering and it looks like we beat her, we don't.

Here's the quilt sans Maya
 Just playing around with strings.

Why not have your own circus, join the fun. You can use any pet for the show, it's not just about cats and dogs. Even a quilt with an animal theme is welcome. So grab your buddy, a quilt and a camera and come play with us, you'll meet the nicest people and animals.

Jacque at Lily Pad Quilting is the special person who works so hard on this for us, so I'm sending her a huge Thank You!

I hope you all get a chance to check out all of the other quilts and furbabies, it's so full of love, I promise you'll be smiling.

Later Gators,
Dana

  1. I'm laughing with you over the circus that is getting pets to cooperate for photos. My cats always want to run right up to the camera so all the pics are up their nostril. Your quilt is gorgeous and the dogs are adorable.

  2. Oh my gosh Dana, I was laughing and smiling throughout your post! What an escapade with Maya! The cookie bribery shot is the best! And Brady Bug - I love the look on his face in the moo-mellow mood! I could swear he is cocking an eyebrow like a sardonic gentleman. LOL i love the coat and cape you made for him. Kaitie's dog Olive gets very sad and sulks if you take off any of her bandanas ot coats.
Your butterfly string quilt turned out great! Love the string pieced wings!

  4. So you could have entered your quilt on its own merit being that it's your pet butterfly, right? I know it would not have been any where near as much fun as your photo shot was. Great dog and wonderful quilt.

  5. I love the chaos of it all!! Seems they know the more you beg, the more they will provide antics - is it on purpose?

  6. Ha...ha... what fun! I laughed when you said about grabbing the quilt before the dirty feet went on it - been there before - total panic usually. Love the coat and cape you made. That is very clever. And super idea for the strings!

  7. Mom, didn't you know that I will only pose for you when...you are not looking, have dead batteries in the camera/phone, it's too sunny, it's too dark.
Your description of the antics of the day is howlingly funny. But I do love that Superdog coat and the purple cow print is a killer combo! Great string butterfly quilt....love the big size!

  9. Hi Dana! Brady looks very proud with his ninja coat, and beautiful! I feel sorry for Maya. Because our Nero is very affraid of fireworks and shooting, lately also many other noices, I know how difficult it can be for her but also for you. When it's New Year's eve, Nero wants to sit on our heads in bed, we try to sleep and he tries to sit on our pillows, never mind that our heads are there. Terrible feeling that we can't make him feel well and safe. Your butterfly quilt is amazing! x Teje

  17. Getting animals to cooperate on photo shoots is an art into itself. I love your idea of using string blocks to make the butterfly. Wonder if I can do that to make a bird??

  20. First, I want to say that I've heard there is a big force 3 hurricane in what I fear is your area. I hope you and the twins will be ok, be safe.

Love your vest jacket for Brady Bug. The design is so cute I'm thinking you are on to something that could make for a very popular pattern for others. Really looks great. And I love how Brady Bug looks wearing his jacket while Maya has her cape on to protect her from storm noise. Your butterfly quilt is amazing. Thanks for sharing in the annual Pets on Quilts Show.

  21. This is just too funny. Maya the big old galoof is the fraidy cat, (sorry) while Brady Bug is the smaller but fearless one?! Much the same here wher 6.5 lb Bella the cat, bosses and terrorizes 65-lb Rocco, the pit bull aka pibble. Our dear fur friend, Brandy, has a thunder jacket for storms.
It helps her, fraidy-cat 75-pound pibble that she is. Your string "just playing around" butterfly quilt is amazing!! I want to copy it! Hilarious story and pics.

  22. Oh my goodness, I had to laugh when I finally realized Maya, was the 'big' dog!! Super Dog looks like he definitely has super powers with his oh-so-cool cape! How fun! Beautiful quilt!

  23. Ah, the thunder shirt. One of our dogs has to use one when it storms, though I wouldn't say her brothers are jealous. Brady looks so proud sporting his ninja jacket complete with cape. What a great dog mom to make that for him. And poor Maya. Why is it the biggest dogs always think they are the smallest and weakest and the smaller dogs think they are bullet proof? Both are beautiful babies.

  24. Haha love the superego cape. Poor Maya, is she a rescue?

  25. I like the zebra side too. Poor Maya, she's too pretty to be so camera shy. Beautiful quilt.

  31. Hehe!! I love this post :) I was sad that I couldn't get it together to make a Pets on Quilts post. I've collected a few pics during the year just to do that, but I was distracted with moving Heather up to Denver and whatever all else was happening. Our funny black cat is the same way about pictures! He'll actually get super angry if I hold my camera/phone up for a shot. My only hope with him is to silence the phone and be sneaky. It's very hit-and-miss. So I got a really good laugh picturing the day you described. :)
