Let's Book It February 2015

I was surprised this morning while reading blogs to see the "Let's Book It" links up on Sharon's blog, February...the rip off month.

I used McCall's Quilting from July/August 2010

To make this quilt

I liked the directions for this one, pretty much it said you can copy this one or do your own thing. I made mine in lime greens and pinks, lime green is one of my favorite colors to work with, it plays well with the other colors and adds such a nice pop.

I like free form sewing, it's freeing not to worry about the size of strips, although it can also look like a fabric store puked on your quilt, LOL. Some of the blocks ended up a little small so I added color instead of white to make them bigger.

Straight line quilting gave it amazing texture.

So there you have it, February done! We've had lots of company so my many plans for the month have stalled. As much as I love winter here, I hope it ends soon for all of you in the bitter cold and snow. Hopefully March will do it's lamb thing and nicer weather will come along.

Did you make something from a pattern, book, magazine or really anywhere? Sharon's rules (if you can call them that) are pretty loose and a great way to clear that stuff out. I hope to see you over there.

FYI - I saw this on blogger dashboard this morning:

On March 23rd, Blogger will no longer allow certain sexually explicit content.

Boy, am I reading the wrong blogs, let's clean it up ladies, LOL.

Later Gators,
Dana

  1. Nice quilt. I am working on one, adapted from a magazine. Not sure it will be finished before the end of the month. Gee, the only sexually explicit content I get up to, is calling a sewing machine a he or she. I'm sure I won't notice any difference on any of the blogs I follow;)

  2. I think you made a lovely save - it adds more interest and movement. I like to do straight line quilting - I find it relaxing (no think, worry where I'm going, hows the back, what next). I saw that note - I don't think I've come across that in the quilting community, there are a lot of different type blogs though.

  3. Actually Dana, I like your quilt even better with those little slices of color you added to even things out! Definitely no fabric store regurgitation here!
Hahahah - I had no idea that things could get explicit in blogland.

  4. I know! We get robbed every February! Your quilt is so nice with the lime green - especially that border, and the little peeks of color where you filled in the blocks. Absolutely love those.

  9. I love the way you have added little bits of colour. You shouldn't have said that they were to cover the wrong block size LOL. It so looked like they were meant to be, and part of the intended design. Must say I prefer your version.

  10. This is fantastic! You always pick such fabulous colors. My favorite color is bright green. For anything..... I actually had my Jeep Cherokee custom painted bright green. You always make such interesting quilts! I'm so jealous. :)
